4 Succumb as Kenya’s Covid-19 Cases Rise to 249,434

The Ministry of Health on Thursday, 30th September, announced 260 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 249,434.

In a statement to the newsrooms, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the latest figure had been derived from 6,226 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 2,556,222 the cumulative number of Covid-19 tests conducted. The country’s positivity rate is at 4.2 per cent.

From the new cases, 256 of them are Kenyans while four are foreigners with140 being males and 120 females. The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 99.

Some 109 patients have recovered from the disease, 78 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 31 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 241,520.

The national death toll rose to 5,123 after four more patients succumbed to the virus.

There are 1,021 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,193 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

At the same time, 66 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 45 of whom are on ventilatory support and 21 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 336 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 324 of them in general wards and 12 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Distribution of Cases in Counties:
Nairobi registered 63 cases, Kajiado 19, Kitui 16, Kiambu 15, Nakuru 13, Uasin Gishu, Meru and Wajir 11 cases each, Bungoma eight, Garissa and Mombasa six cases each, Homa Bay, Kericho, Makueni, Nandi and Nyandarua five cases each, Bomet, Laikipia, Kirinyaga and Embu four cases each, Machakos, Kakamega, Kisumu, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi, Samburu and West Pokot three cases each, Siaya, Busia, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Turkana and Vihiga two cases each while Elgeyo Marakwet, Kilifi, Kisii, Migori, Narok, Nyeri and Trans Nzoia had one case each.
