Kenya’s Covid-19 Cases Soar to 251,959 as 156 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 16th October confirmed 156 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours. This brings the country’s caseload to 251,959.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a statement issued in Nairobi that the cases were detected from 4,408 samples tested, raising the total to 2,635,120. The country’s positivity rate stands at 3.5 per cent.

From the new cases, 154 are Kenyans while two are foreigners with 65 being females while 91 are males. The youngest is an eight-month-old baby while the oldest is 87.

Kagwe confirmed that 101 patients had recovered from the disease, 71 from the home-based and isolation care programme and 30 from various health facilities. This has increased to 245,178, the total number of recoveries.

The Covid-19 death toll rose to 5,215 after five more patients succumbed.

There are 596 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide while 1,582 patients are under the home-based isolation and care programme.
