Media personality Janet Mbugua has spoken out after her husband Eddie Ndichu and his twin brother Paul Ndichu were recorded on camera battering two women.
The video shot at Ole Sereni Hotel in Kajiado shows the siblings in a violent confrontation with the ladies.
The source that leaked the clip told blogger Edgar Obare that the siblings attacked her and her sister after they allegedly declined their advances.
“My sister and I were attacked by the Ndichu twins for respectfully turning them down. They threatened to shoot us and ruin our lives. My sister was strangled by Paul Ndichu while her boyfriend who had come to her rescue was being strangled by Eddie,” she claimed.
In the video, one of the twins was captured angrily mangling the side mirror of a car whose owner is still anonymous.
In her reaction posted on her social media pages, Janet mentioned that she does not condone Gender-Based Violence and asked law enforcers to take action.
“I am saddened by increasing incidents of Gender-Based Violence. Over the last decade, I have joined my voice in efforts to end GBV. I condemn all forms of GBV irrespective of who is involved and will continue to speak out against it. We have laws in Kenya and justice must prevail,” she said.
The twins have also issued a statement, confirming that the men filmed in the video are them.
However, they denied assault allegations, claiming that their intentions were to intervene in a fight between two women.
“The video being shared on social media, albeit horrific and regrettable, do not depict the true events that transpired that night. To be clear, Paul and Eddie got involved in an attempt to neutralize a confrontation between two women and to defend themselves from certain aggressors,” the founders of Wapi Pay said in a joint statement.
“The matter has been reported to the police and DCI for further investigation and resolution. Pending this, we request restraint be exercised in potentially and unfairly spreading misinformation that has no factual basis.”
