Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip will spend the night in police custody following a shooting incident in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.

The first-time lawmaker allegedly fired at a woman and injured her in the leg.

Laikipia East Sub-County Commander John Tarus said the dram involved four people – Loitiptip, the victim, whose name is Joy Makena, another woman, and a man.

The cause of the disagreement was not immediately established.
Also, it remains unclear why he decided to shoot Makena and not the other two.

“There was a confrontation. That’s all we can say for now,” Tarus said.

The Lamu senator went into hiding after the incident, but he surrendered to police on Sunday afternoon.

He was questioned for hours and then locked in the cells.
The controversial parliamentarian will be presented in court tomorrow, with charges ranging from misuse of his firearm to causing bodily harm.

This is the second time in less than a week Loitiptip is on the spot.
On Tuesday, October 19, his rival in the Lamu senatorial race accused him of assault.

Francis Mugo reported to the police that the senator attacked him, broke his eyeglasses, snatched his phone, and attempted to dip him into the Indian Ocean.

“He forcefully took my phone, which I was using. In the process, he broke my eyeglasses and injured me in the right hand and left yet,” Mugo.

The alleged assault happened after Deputy President William Ruto’s tour in the Coastal county.

The senator defended himself following the incident.

“That man is just looking for sympathy and to tarnish my name. You can imagine how unfair it is for someone to come and gate-crash my function, then try to frame me,” he said.
