The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has been forced to step in after reports emerged that the office of the Deputy President has been denying food to the newly appointed bodyguards.

The ministry has asked the office of DP Ruto to provide the bodyguards with food or allocate food allowances to them. This will enable the team from Administration Police Unit (AP) to undertake their daily duties.

Documents in possession of a local media house that shows the correspondence of the Ministry of Interior and Office of the DP pointed out that the General Service Unit (GSU) officers who were withdrawn used to receive food rations and allowances.

“This is to bring to your attention that the above officers have not been consistently provided with food rations or meal allowances to enable them to discharge their mandate effectively and efficiently.

“This is in contrast to their counterparts from GSU whom they replaced and who used to get food rations The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to request that you reinstate the food rations for the officers currently deployed in the two residences for optimal service delivery,” the letter read in part.

The letter further indicated that the officers affected were those assigned to man his official Karen residence and his private home in Karen, Koitobos Road.

In August, DP Ruto security details were withdrawn by the government. Citizen TV reported that 77 GSU officers were replaced by 26 AP officers. The Ministry of Interior described the move as normal routine adjustments since the officers had been deployed for other assignments. This was to improve on work efficiency and effectiveness of the officers.
