Embattled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has been arrested over alleged graft.
Mwendwa was arrested on Friday, 12th November by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives as he was visiting the Harambee Stars team at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Westlands.
He was reportedly meeting with the national team ahead of their final World Cup qualifier match against Rwanda slated for Monday, 15th November.
His arrest comes a day after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded the federation and formed a 15-member caretaker committee to run football activities in the country.
The federation was dissolved after CS Amina received a report on a serious fraud investigation reported to police officers.
Mwendwa is facing accusations of abuse of office, mismanaging the federation and misuse of taxpayers’ money.
On Thursday, 11th Mwendwa rubbished the claims and opposed the caretaker committee appointed by CS Amina.
He maintained that he was still in charge of the federation.
“I am still… in charge of the FKF. We won’t accept the decision taken by the sports ministry,” Mwendwa said.
