Fast-rising Kenyan rapper Stephen Otieno Adera alias Stivo Simple Boy has admitted that his living conditions have remained the same even after fame and money.
The Vijana Tuache Mihadarati crooner explained in an interview on Lynn Ngugi YouTube channel that there are several reasons as to why he is yet to improve his life.
He was thrust into the limelight when he was living in Nairobi’s Kibera slum and three years later nothing much has changed.
“You know I have a private life that is not in the public. A lot has been happening, but all I can say is that I’ve been fine,” he answered when asked about dwelling in the informal settlement.
Lately, there have been allegations that his management has been exploiting him financially and that’s why he is yet to change his lifestyle.
Addressing these concerns, the artiste denied being misused by the label that signed him.
“I started working with this management even before my songs went viral. I want to state categorically that they pay me,” he said.
However, eyebrows were raised after he refused to divulge about the percentage he gets after a gig or an endorsement. He insisted that all is well.
Whistleblowers had alleged that his managers pay him peanuts even after striking a deal that rakes in huge sums of money.
“Now I’m saving. I don’t want to rush things because I’m not in competition with anyone. When the time is right, I will relocate to a better estate,” he said.
Kenyans felt that his managers had coached him before the interview.
Also, netizens are intrigued why a person from the management selling his brand must accompany him in any media interview.
