The story of Shirleen Mukami touched the whole nation. But did she fool and con the whole nation?

The young mother, in a Twitter thread, narrated how at only 20 years she has gone through so much.

She claimed that she was a university student when she got pregnant and the father of her child refused to take responsibility.

Mukami detained that the rejection made her skip prenatal clinics, but delivered a healthy baby boy, who is five months now.

From her experience, she brought together several young mothers who have faced a similar fate and launched an initiative to help other mums.

The reason for all these was because she wanted Kenyans to chip in so that her initiative can reach as young mothers as possible.

Kenyans from all walks of life were so moved by the narration and did not disappoint.

Narc-Kenya Martha Karua was among prominent citizens who sympathized with her and contributed handsomely. The mainstream media also highlighted her story.

But it is hard to fool the whole country for long when the ‘Tea Master’ Edgar Obare is around.

Obare has now exposed that it was a script by Mukami’s alleged boyfriend Kenneth Gachie aka Cabugah, who has been linked to several online scams.

After Kenyans fundraised more than Ksh800,000 in less than a week, he started bragging to his friends about how he had smartly stolen from Kenyans. He revealed that he would use the money to buy a new car.

Screenshots from the conversation were leaked to Obare, who went ahead to share them on his BNN Instagram page.

Addressing the allegations, Mukami admitted that she contacted Cabugah, who is a blogger, to help her popularize the initiative. However, she did not disclose whether he is her lover.

The young mother maintained that her course was genuine and encouraged Kenyans to continue sending money.

Mukami and Cabugah surrendered to police earlier in the day after summons were issued against them. The suspects were grilled for obtaining money through pretense, which is illegal.

Kenyans have now vowed to always examine any case before donating their hard-earned money.
