Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Wangui Ngirici has yet again lashed out at Governor Anne Waiguru, describing her as unfit to hold public office.
Ngirici claims that the Kirinyaga governor has been stealing from public coffers and the best title she can have is a “thief”.
The lawmaker said the county boss has been fighting the Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho because the powerful civil servant stopped her from grabbing a piece of land reserved for construction of a facility under the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).
She alleged that Waiguru did not want the 100-acre piece of land to be given to KEMRI for the Ksh15 billion health project.
“She wanted KEMRI to be given just 30 acres so that she can steal the rest of the land,” she said.
The Kiringaga MP added that it took the intervention of Kibicho to ensure the whole land went to the research institute.
“She is attacking Kibicho because he stopped her from grabbing public land. This woman is a thief and every Kirinyaga resident should know that.”
Although her claims could not be verified, the national government and the Kirinyaga administration were embroiled in a protracted battle over the parcel of land situated in Mwea.
President Uhuru Kenyatta tried several times to ask the governor to surrender the title deed, but she refused, saying that certain conditions had to be met.
Eventually, the national government issued another title deed and nullified the documents that the county chief was holding.
KEMRI is now in the process of building a Level Five hospital, a medical institution, a health research centre, and a medical supplies factory.
In the meantime, Ngirici insisted that Waiguru decamped to UDA of Deputy President William Ruto from President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party to seek sympathy.
“Now that she has joined UDA, we know her character. She remains a thief and that cannot change just because of political affiliation,” the Woman Rep stated.
Barely a week ago, the parliamentarian warned the governor against insulting Kibicho, telling her to take politics of hatred in Murang’a where she is married.
