Ex-Kitui Governor’s Wife Edith Malombe is Dead

Former Kitui County First Lady Edith Mawia Malombe wife to former governor Julius Malombe is dead.

A brief statement released by the family on Wednesday, 8th December confirmed that Mama Malombe passed away on Tuesday, 7th December 7 following a short illness.

“It is with profound sadness that We the family of Dr Julius Makau Malombe, the pioneer Governor of Kitui County, announce the passing on of Mrs Edith Mawia Malombe on 7th December 2021 after a short illness. Funeral and burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. The family asks for your prayers during this trying time,” the statement read.

Following her demise, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu was among the first leaders to send a message of condolence to comfort Malombe’s family.

In her message, Ngilu mourned the deceased as a person who inspired great hope and ambition in many young and old women during her tenure as the First Lady of Kitui County.

“Her charity work through the Kyeni Foundation which she pioneered went a long way to redress gaps in reproductive health services and information here in Kitui County and beyond. Death has robbed Kitui County of one of its most brilliant daughters,” the county boss said.

Governor Ngilu wished the family of the former governor God’s comfort as they come to terms with Mama Edith’s sudden demise.

“On behalf of the County Government and all people of Kitui as well as on my own behalf, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Julius Malombe and the family, to the Ithiani community, and to all relatives and friends of the family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through this most difficult and painful moment. Mama Edith was an extremely brilliant and compassionate person and a rock of the Malombe family. We all share in the sadness of the family for this great loss. We pray that the Lord gives Dr Malombe and his family ever greater strength, faith and fortitude to bear this loss. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Ngilu said.

Other political leaders who have sent their condolence messages to Malombe’s family include former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and Kieni MP Kanini Kega.

Mr Malombe was the first governor of Kitui County, he served from 2013 to 2017 when Ngilu took over after beating him in the election.
