Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Italian midfielder Jorginho will be available to play against Leeds in a Premier League clash scheduled for Saturday, December 11, despite his injury.
Jorginho was left out on Wednesday due to a niggling back problem when Chelsea faced Zenit St Petersburg from Russia in a Champions League match that ended in a 3-3 draw.
“He did the last two training sessions, and I think he will do what he did the last games, play through pain and do what’s needed to be on the pitch,” Tuchel told reporters on Friday.
Tuchel further disclosed that N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic will not be available to play against the 15th placed Leeds United for testing positive for Covid-19. Kante also has an injury after a knee dislocation when Chelsea was playing against Juventus, a match that the Blues won 4-0.
“We’re always worried when we have to live and play without N’Golo because he’s an exceptional player all over the world. This is my personal opinion. You can’t find a second N’Golo,” Tuchel said.
“Of course, I’m worried, but I’d be worried if he was just missing for a few days. Now, it’s too long a break, and we hope that he comes back on Tuesday to team training.”
Further, Trevor Chalobah has been left out of the squad, prompting Tuchel to play Reece James and Ross Barkley at the midfield to cover up for the injured player.
Chelsea is now in doubtful form after winning only three games out of seven consecutive games played in all competitions. It is currently third in the Premier League table with 33 points.
