Kenya Registers Zero Covid-19 Deaths as Cases Increase in Last 24 Hours

The Ministry of Health has announced 331 new Covid-19 cases from 2,872 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 256,815.

The cumulative number of samples tested so far stands at 2,894,765. The country’s positivity rate is at 11.5 per cent.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 14th December, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that from the new cases, 296 are Kenyans while 35 are foreigners, with 153 being males and 178 females. The youngest is a five-month-old infant while the oldest is 99.

Kagwe said that 253 patients have recovered, 237 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 16 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 248,804.

There is no death reported today. Therefore, the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,349.

Currently, there are 161 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 710 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

Some two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and all of them are on ventilatory support.

Another 43 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 42 of them being in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 13th December 2021, a total of 8,223,238 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 4,947,002 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,276,236.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.2 per cent.  The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 12 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
