Kenya Railways Corporation has announced the resumption of the Nairobi-Kisumu commuter train services from 17th December 2021.
The commercial passenger service is being re-launched on the route after more than a decade of absence, due to poor infrastructure, lack of proper maintenance and mismanagement.
According to the passenger schedule released by Kenya Railways, the first train will depart from Nairobi at 6 am and arrive in Nakuru at 11:35 am, and later proceed to Kisumu where it will arrive at 5:45 pm.
The first-class ticket will go for Ksh2,000 while the economy class Ksh600 for those travelling to Kisumu.
Passengers who travel from Nairobi to Nakuru County will pay Ksh300.
On return, the train will depart Nakuru City for Nairobi at 1:30 pm and arrive in Nairobi at 6:20 pm. Meanwhile, the Kisumu-Nairobi train will depart at 6 pm and arrive in Nairobi at 6:20 am.
Apart from the grand return of the train service, passengers will also enjoy free Wi-Fi.
“Kisumu Dala, here we come! Come let’s make this journey more exciting together. Kenya Railways will take you from Nairobi City to Dala this festive season. Are you ready? ” Kenya Railways said in a statement.
Kenyans have been urged to purchase tickets and reserve bookings using the reservation calls 0115169759 /0115102558 or making physical reservations at Nairobi Central Station.
Nairobi to Kisumu Train Fares:
First-class ticket – Ksh2,000
Economy class – Ksh600
Nairobi to Kisumu Train Departure and Arrival Times:
Depart Nairobi 0600hrs – Arrive in Nakuru at 1135hrs
Depart Nakuru 1145 hrs – Arrive in Kisumu at 1745hrs
