Troubled High Court judge Said Chitembwe has received a Ph.D. degree from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) during their 17th graduation ceremony held on Friday.
Chitembwe was among two others, John Kisilu and Gacaga Mungai, who were awarded Doctor of Philosophy in Peace and Conflict studies.
Chitembwe is facing corruption allegations leveled against him by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who leaked a series of videos online alleging that Chitembwe was involved in illegal transactions.
The videos went viral on various social media platforms and were termed “Sonko leaks”.
A committee has since been formed by Chief Justice Martha Koome to investigate the code of conduct of Chitembwe.
The judge refused the claims of his involvement in graft practices and went ahead to stop court proceedings but unfortunately, the court threw out his intrigue.
“It is hereby ordered that the matter is certified as urgent. That pending hearing inter parties the defendants are hereby restrained from publishing further statements/articles forthwith as regards the plaintiffs/applicants.
“That given the nature of the publication and the public interest in the matter this application is to be heard urgently and on-priority basis,” Magistrate Nyaga ordered.
Elsewhere, MMUST conferred an honorary Doctorate degree on business magnate Dr. Manu Chandaria and Equity Group Cheif Executive Officer Dr. James Mwangi.
Mwangi received an honorary Doctor of Science in financial innovation while industrialist Chandaria was conferred Doctor of Human Letters in Business Technology.
The graduation ceremony saw over 4,000 students given the power to read and do what appertains.
