No Deaths as Kenya Records 2,169 New Covid-19 Cases

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 2,169 new Covid-19 cases, raising the national tally to 262,335.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, 18th December, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the cases were detected from 9,428 samples tested within the same period, raising the total to 2,924,685. The country’s positivity rate is at 23 per cent.

Of the new cases, 2,041 are Kenyans while 128 are foreigners with 1,039 being male while 1,130 were females. The youngest is a two-month-old baby while the oldest is 95 years.

Kagwe said 241 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,474 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

There is no death reported therefore, the cumulative fatalities remains at 5,353.

Some nine patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), three of them on ventilatory support while six are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 50 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 49 of them are in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 17th December 2021, a total of 8,818,453 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,264,630 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,553,823.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.5 per cent.  Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 13 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

Nairobi County is in the lead with 31.5 per cent of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri at 27.5 per cent, Laikipia 21.2 per cent, Kiambu 20.5 per cent, Murang’a 15.9 per cent, Taita Taveta 15.7 per cent, Uasin Gishu at 15.4 per cent, Kirinyaga 15 per cent, Nyandarua 14.2 per cent, Nakuru 14 per cent, Kajiado 13.8 per cent, Mombasa 13.6 and Kisumu at 13.5 per cent.

Meanwhile Mandera County is the least with 2.7 per cent of the Population fully vaccinated.
