Trouble is brewing at city hall after the Nairobi County Assembly Acting Clerk Adah Onyango was blocked from accessing the office.

In a ruling by the Employment and Labour Relations Court, Adah was temporarily removed pending a hearing and determination of a case in which Okiya Omtata had sued the Nairobi County Assembly Service Board (CASB).

The office of the clerk which is a key position as the accounting officer of a county assembly and also the signatory of the assembly’s accounts, hence in charge of its finances, has witnessed protracted tussles since 2018.

Okiya Omtata speaking exclusively to TaarifaNews said the latest directive was overdue since the acting clerk’s term had expired on 1oth of December 2021.

“A temporary barring Ms. Adah Onyango from acting as the Nairobi City County Assembly Clerk and Secretary to the county assembly Service Board be and is hereby issued pending the inter-parties hearing and determination of this application” read the court order.

Following this directive Pauline Akuku who is the Deputy Clerk Administration has taken over the position in an interim capacity.

The office was previously held by Edward Gichana who was removed by court of appeal after a tussle with its previous holder Jacob Ngwele
