Kenya’s Covid-19 Cases Exceed 270,000, Positivity Rate at 29.7PC

Kenya on Wednesday, 22nd December, confirmed 3,328 new Covid-19 cases tested in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s coronavirus caseload to 270,899.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a press statement that the cases were detected in the 11,197 samples tested, raising the total to 2,955,176. The country’s positivity rate is at 29.7 per cent.

Kagwe confirmed that 83 patients have recovered, 69 from various health facilities while 14 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,557.

Currently, there are 520 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 7,631 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

Some 15 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), nine of them on ventilatory support while six are on supplemental oxygen.

One patient has succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,355.

Another 89 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 88 of them in the general wards and one patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 21st December 2021, a total of 9,169,969 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 5,447,429 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,722,540.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.9 per cent.  Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 13.7 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
