Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has been named as Al Duhail’s best player in October and November.
Olunga scored five goals over the period and helped his side to maintain the second spot in the Qatar Stars League.
“The team’s striker Michael Olunga received the best player in the league award for months October and November after the special level the player appeared within the matches he participated in and contributed in the positive results Al Duhail succeeded in achieving in the previous rounds,” the club said in a statement.
Olunga’s achievement comes days after the Kenyan striker was nominated for the Asian Champions League All-Star XI award.
Olunga enjoyed a debut campaign to remember, scoring in all six of his appearances for Al Duhail and finishing as the tournament’s top scorer on nine goals despite his side being eliminated from the competition.
His 34 attempted shots overall and 15 shots on target also ranked the highest in the entire tournament that was won by Al Hilal.
“Using a statistics-based approach, we’ve selected 10 of the star performers from the continental competition as we look to complete the All-Star XI,” read a statement on the official AFC Champions League website.
Al Duhail are currently second in the league table with 22 points, three behind leaders Al Sadd.
