New Covid-19 Cases Jump to 277,609 as 2,964 More Test Positive

Kenya on Friday, 24th December, confirmed 2,964 new Covid-19 cases from 9,082 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s caseload to 277,609.

This has raised to 2,975,795 the cumulative number of samples tested since March last year, when the pandemic broke out. The country’s positivity rate is at 32.6 per cent.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced in a press statement that from the new cases, 2,837 are Kenyans while 127 are foreigners, with 1,418 being males and 1,546 females. The youngest is a four-month-old baby and the oldest is 97.

Some 77 patients have recovered from the disease, 25 from the home-based and isolation care, while 52 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,694.

The Covid-19 death toll rose to 5,357 after one more patient succumbed.
