Inside Ferdinand Omanyala’s fantastic year

2021 was sports breakout star Ferdinand Omanyala’s year.

Few have had such a grand year as world renowned athlete Ferdinand Omanyala. From his humble beginnings in Bungoma county, Ferdinand is now known as Africa’s fastest man. 2021 was the year that Ferdinand’s career soared into new heights. Ironically, a lot of this was made possible due to the pandemic.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics had to be postponed to July of this year due to the complications COVID-19 brought about. It is with the unexpected extra time on his hands that Ferdinand was able to work on his skill, strength and discipline. In March of this year, at the Making of Champions (MOC) grand prix, he ran a time of 10.01seconds in the men’s 100m race, qualifying him for the Olympics and making him Kenya’s fastest sprinter.

At the Olympic Games, Omanyala ran a time of 10.01s finishing third and becoming the first Kenyan to reach the semi-final in the men’s 100m at the Games. He ended 2021 athletics season on a grand note running a time of 9.77 seconds to become the fastest African sprinter in the 100m and also broke the Kenyan 100metres National record for the fifth time at the Kip Keino Classic at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Kenya.

Odibets took Ferdinand under his wing, injecting Ksh 1.5 million into hi career and even gifted him a Toyota Harrier as a reward for breaking the African 100 metres. In September, he was named the LG Sport’s Personality for the month

Three weeks ago, Omanyala was selected an OPPO Kenya ambassador, joining the O Stars team for the Reno6 5G that comprises actor Pascal Tokodi, artist Avril Nyambura, media personalities Lulu Hassan and Jalang’o.

Recently, Omanyala confirmed that he had secured a sponsorship deal wit sports giant Adidas. Adidas will be supporting Ferdinand for the next four year, adorning him with the finest kits, granting him cash bonuses, taking care of his travel expenses and so much more.

What a year!
