Citizen TV’s Victoria Rubadiri Speaks After Training at BBC

Highly acclaimed Citizen TV telecaster Victoria Rubadiri has jetted back into the country from British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) headquarters in Portland Place, London, where she had gone for a three-month workshop.

Speaking about the experiences and skills she gathered during the training, Rubadiri lauded the diligence, commitment, and pertinacity of the employees in the giant media house.

She stated that journalists worked harmoniously to ensure that they are ahead of their competitors by churning out content in real-time, on a 24-hour basis.

“Getting to see the BBC machine at work from the inside was surreal. The energy and urgency of a newsroom running for 24 hours were incredible to experience. I learned a lot and even contributed some insights,” she stated.

During her training with BBC, Rubadiri was working on a news feature that focused on the challenges facing passengers in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), following reports of rising abduction cases of commuters.

The cynosure of the documentary arrived after she highlighted the move of two female entrepreneurs who were working on a mobile application to improve passenger safety.

The news anchor noted that the new skills are a plus to her career as she looks forward to employing the dexterity into practice at Royal Media Services.

“It’s great to be back with a fresh perspective on the news and how and why we cover the people and events that we do,” she noted.

She was selected to take part in the BBC training program after winning the 2020 Komla Dumor Award, which was created to honor Komla Dumor, a Ghananian presenter who worked with the BBC until he died in 2014.

African journalists are encouraged to apply for the award annually, as it seeks to promote and uncover talents in Africa.

Rubadiri was the second Kenyan to win the award after her colleague, Waihiga Mwaura, bagged the award in 2018, making him the first Kenyan journalist to win the prestigious award.
