Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Sunday, December 2, confused many Kenyans after making a senseless claim that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s wife, Pauline had passed away.

In a social media post, which has since been deleted, the county boss sent his condolence message to the family of the former Vice-President.

Mutua, who was the only person to publish the unverified information, blacked out the post minutes.

He issued another statement, apologising to Kalonzo and Kenyans for sharing misleading news. Some online news outlets had already circulated with the story.

The governor claimed that he was fed with the unconfirmed information by the Wiper leader’s kin.

“I wish to apologise for the earlier post about the family of H.E Kalonzo Musyoka. This was as a result of misinformation and a hoax from several players, some seemingly credible and close to H.E Kalonzo, who made it seem like a message to me about the family.

“People can be evil. My sincere apologies for any anxiety caused. Happily, all is well. May God bless you,” he wrote.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula called out the governor, saying that it was unfortunate that a leader of Mutua’s calibre can post such alarming information.

“I’m in a meeting with Steve Kalonzo and Cyrus Jirongo at Steve’s residence. Mama Pauline is alive, safe, and sound. This is fake news at the highest crudity,” he said.

Hundreds of netizens also wondered why Mutua, who has not been on good terms with Kalonzo politically speaking, could not wait for the family to break such sensitive news.

Speaking to Citizen TV recently, Kalonzo opened up about his wife’s long illness.

“Mama is stable and we thank God. We continue praying for a miracle. She knows I must continue fighting; in fighting on, I believe I am also assisting in her recovery,” he said.
