Ruto Bodyguards Swing Into Action After Bomet Security Breach [VIDEO]

Bodyguards attached to Deputy President William Ruto on Monday, January 10, swung into action to quell a security breach in Bomet County.

This was after a daring member of the crowd attempted to access the DP during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political rally at the Bomet Green Stadium.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, his security is seen whisking away a man who tried to access the podium.

The man was accosted by two bodyguards who moved him away from the vicinity of the the country’s Second-in-Command. 

Moments earlier, the DP had just welcomed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated member of parliament, Wilson Sossion, to address the crowd.

Sossion continued addressing the crowd, oblivious to what was happening in the surrounding.

While Ruto’s bodyguards have managed to effectively deal with threats in the past, their handling of an NTV journalist attracted backlash from the media industry.

Mwangi Muiruri, an NTV journalist, claimed that he was roughed up and consequently arrested on November 14, 2021 after he was involved in an altercation with the men guarding the DP, while covering an event in Murang’a.

He noted that he ran into trouble when he accidentally stepped on one of the bodyguards while scrambling to get a snap of Ruto.

The men confiscated his badge before they handed him over to the police where he was kept in custody for several hours.

However, the row escalated, with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), through CEO, David Omwoyo, reported the matter to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

MCK is asking the body to help in the identification of the police officers involved, noting that their actions were a clear violation of the constitution and that they acted in bad faith.
