RC Natembeya resigns, to contest for Trans Nzoia Governorship

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has formally resigned from office.

The former Regional Commissioner is set to focus on his Trans Nzoia gubernatorial bid in the forth coming General Elections.

Natembeya has been in public service for more than 25 years.

Announcing his resignation Wednesday, George Natembeya thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and PS Karanja Kibicho for according him support during his two and a half years as Rift Valley Commissioner.

He noted that he will use his experience in leadership to serve and transform the County.

The former RC will contest through the DAP-K party will face Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa, Patrick Khaemba, Trans Nzoia Women Representative Janet Nangabo, Andrew Wanyonyi, Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa among others.

So far, he is the first high ranking government official to resign before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission deadline on 9th February.

Natembeya now sets the stage for public servants willing to participate in politics to follow suit in accordance to the law.

Last year, the electoral commission unveiled the 2022 election timeliness, which required all civil servants seeking to run for office to resign by February 9, next year.

The law requires interested public servants seeking elective positions to resign six months to a General Election.
