Famed EDM and Afrohouse deejay Alex Nderi, popularly known as DJ Lithium, committed suicide at his workplace on Wednesday night after taking rat poison.
This incident left many Kenyans in shock, many blaming the state of mental health among citizens, with many suffering in silence.
In a moving tribute from his colleague, Nadia Favre, who worked with DJ Lithium for eight years at Capital FM, she described the spinmaster as a creative person who loved his job.
“It’s an unbelievably devastating day at @CapitalFMKenya as we grieve losing one of our own.” Eulogy read in part.
“Alex was a kind, gentle and creative man. A patient producer and spectacular DJ. I will miss seeing his face every morning. Rest in peace, DJ Lithium.”
Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans upon learning the tragic death of the mastery DJ.
Maasaigirl: “Very sad…mental issues are real RIP DJ Lithium… Let each of us be alert and sense mental issues amongst our friends and family and provide open channels of communication.”
Lawrenzo: “There is a time when the peace of mind becomes more important than money or the job.”
Black Motion: “The good thing about men is that they always tell each other the truth, uplift, and come through for each other. Please be your brother’s keeper. Remember, people don’t fake depression, they fake being okay. RIP DJ Lithium.”
KU Coolkid: “People are depressed and go through a lot of challenges. If you are in a position of telling someone you care and love them, please do so. Rip Dj Lithium.”
Mr. RightKE: “Depression is an evil thing. If you are a victim, speak to someone who can help please, death is not the answer Rest In Peace, Dj Lithium.”
Before his last day on earth, DJ Lithium deleted all his social media accounts and texted close friends and family informing them of his eternal journey.
