Kenya on Saturday, 22nd January, confirmed 300 new Covid-19 cases from 6,072 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s caseload to 320,138.
This has raised to 3,183,057 the cumulative number of samples tested since March 2020, when the first case was reported. The country’s positivity rate is at 4.9 per cent.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced in a press statement that from the new cases, 274 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners, with 158 being males and 142 females. The youngest is a one-month-old infant and the oldest is 100.
Some 1,123 patients have recovered, 1,001 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme while122 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 289,547.
Sadly, three patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in January 2022. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,541.
There are 814 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,801 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.
At the same time, 46 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 44 of them on ventilatory support while two are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 199 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 197 of them are in the general wards. Two other patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Vaccination: As of 21st January 2022, a total of 11,522,950 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 6,308,695 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,063,545.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 60.6 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 18.6 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
