Health ministry reports 23 Covid-19 late deaths

Kenya has reported 23 Covid-19 deaths pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,554.

According to the Ministry of Health, the patients who succumbed to the disease are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of December 2021 and January 2022.

The ministry has further reported 91 new infections from a sample size of 3,229 tested in the last 24 hours.

“The positivity rate is now at 2.8%. From the cases, 71 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners. 51 males and 40 are females. The youngest is an 11- year-old child while the oldest is 101 years. Total confirmed positive cases are now 320,229 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,186,286” announced the health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi leads with 45, Meru 7, Siaya 6, Mombasa 5, Kisumu 4, Nakuru 4, Homa Bay 4, Kiambu 3, Murang’a 3, Busia 3, Garissa 2. others are Kilifi 1, Narok 1, Migori 1, Nyamira 1 and Nyeri 1.

1,814 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,676 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 138 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 291,361 of whom 239,448 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 51,913 are from various health facilities countrywide.

A total of 746 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,011 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 40 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 38 of them on ventilatory support while two are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 172 patients are on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

On Vaccinations, a total of 11,542,128 vaccines have been administered across the country, as of January 22nd 2022.

Of these, 6,315,808 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 5,074,497. Another 36,765 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 115,058 are booster doses.
