Sign That Martha Karua is Secretly Pushing to be Raila’s Running Mate

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has been blowing hot and cold about the 2022 election.

She has been suggested as a potential running mate of Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the two main frontrunners in the 2022 State House race.

Towards the end of last year, she said she would contest for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race in the coming General Election.

However, the former Justice Minister did not rule out aiming higher, although she claimed that none of the top presidential contenders have reached out to her.

Fast forward, today she joined the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) as a co-principal. The coalition comprises the Wiper and Kanu parties of Kalonzo Musyoka and Gideon Moi, respectively. ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetangula abandoned OKA last Sunday and announced they would combine forces with Dr. Ruto.

That said, Karua seems to be pulling behind-the-scenes maneuvers to be picked as Raila’s running.

Activist Boniface Mwangi, a close friend of the Narc-Kenya boss, has taken to Twitter to claim that the former Prime Minister prefers Karua to deputise him.

However, he alleged that tycoons were not okay with a Raila-Karua ticket, as the duo would have zero tolerance to corruption.

“So Raila Odinga strongly favours Martha Karua to be his running mate but President Uhuru Kenyatta and her Kikuyu elite are afraid of her. They fear if anything happens to baba and Martha becomes President, their access to looting will be closed, and will likely be jailed.

“In 2027, Raila Odinga will be 82 years old. He is going to serve one term as President and the people who have presided over grand corruption already have his successor in mind. They want Raila’s deputy to be a puppet they can replace easily. Martha Karua can be a puppet,” he said.

Whether the activist is giving his personal thoughts or Karua is using her to send a message remains the big question.

Three days ago, there was a poster doing rounds on social media indicating that Karua has accepted to be Ruto’s running mate. She termed it fake.
