The ruling Jubilee Party suffered another blow in the National Assembly Wednesday.

This is after legislators allied to the Deputy President ganged up to shoot down a procedural motion that sought to reduce the publication period for the Elections Amendment bill 2022 from 14 to 5 days.

62 members voted against the motion that was moved by the leader of Majority Amos Kimunya with only 43 supporting it.

Among the key proposals in the 23 clause bill is to cap the time limit for lodging an electoral dispute with the commission to 48hrs.

It further seeks to provide complementary mechanisms for voter identification and transmission of external results.

Other proposals are that the decision of the high court concerning Appeals filed against the election of  MCAs’ be final and provides for the flow of the election results for the presidential election from a presiding officer to the commission.
