Former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has resigned as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

Boinnet declared that he will be vying for the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor’s seat in the 9th August general election.

“So today’s appearance in Parliament marks the end of my tour of duty as a Chief Administrative Secretary. Immediately after this, I am going to tender my resignation as Chief Administrative Secretary because I intend to head to the county where I was born to vie for the position of Governor. That is the county of Elgeyo-Marakwet,” he noted.

He will now be seeking to replace second-term Governor Alex Tolgos who was elected as the first governor of the county on 4th March 2013 and re-elected on 8th August 2017 to serve his second and final term as governor.

Boinnet was appointed to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife by President Uhuru Kenyatta after his term as Inspector General ended.

IG Hillary Mutyambai was then appointed as the new Inspector General of Police. Boinett was appointed in 2014 as the new Inspector General of Police replacing David Kimaiyo.

Boinnet’s resignation comes a day after the Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua directed all public officers seeking elective posts to hand over notes to respective authorities by Tuesday, 9th February.

The Elections Act stipulates that aspirants seeking elective positions should vacate their offices at least six months before the General Elections.
