Nairobi Area traffic commander Joshua Omukata is urging Kenyans to observe traffic rules to reduce road accidents.

Omukata says traffic-related accidents have claimed the lives of 48 people in Nairobi over the last month including 36 pedestrians and 12 motorcyclists. It has also been revealed that the victims of fatal accidents failed to use the designated crossing.

He is warning that the number may go up if stricter measures are not put in place to tame the vice.

He took issue with motorcyclists for blatant disregard of the law. He said they will increase road checks to arrest those who deliberately carry more than one passenger and use the wrong side of the road.

PSV operators have been warned against overlapping. Unroadworthy vehicles operating in Nairobi particularly in the wee hours and weekends will not be spared either.
