Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit of The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four colleagues attached to DCI offices in Lang’ata.

They said that the four will face robbery with violence charges after they abducted a man at a mall along Mombasa Road on February 6 and demanded money from him.

The victim had requested a taxi and was waiting at the mall before the four detectives abducted him and mauled him in a Subaru belonging to their DCI offices.

“Whilst in the vehicle, the in-charge, forcefully transferred Ksh40,000 from the victim’s mobile money account to his.

“They then proceeded to the victim’s apartment where they took a further USD2,400, from him, before dumping him at Choma Zone located at Total Petrol Station along Mombasa Road, after a 2-hour ordeal,” the DCI stated

The victim then headed to Akira Police Station to report the incident, but he was shocked to learn that the Subaru he had been bundled into was parked at the station.

This prompted him to head to DCI headquarters located along Kiambu Road and file a report with the Serious Crimes Unit.

“Investigations were launched immediately, and the serious crimes detectives established that the vehicle indeed belonged to DCI Langata.

“All the four officers, who were involved in the criminal act, have since been arrested and identified positively by the victim in an identification parade conducted this evening at the DCI headquarters,” the DCI stated.

In a move to clean their already tarnished name, the DCI has stated that the four are just isolated indisciplined officers, and their acts do not reflect the moral values of the national body in charge of enforcing the rule of law.

Further, it fired a warning to officers who take advantage of their position to defraud and discommode the citizens.

“We caution any police officer/s found on the wrong side of the law, that stern and prompt action shall be taken against them, in strict fidelity to the law regardless of the service they are from.”
