A traffic snarl-up has been witnessed along Mai Mahiu road in the Mutarakwa area on February 13 after a fuel tanker ferrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) burst into flames.

In a video seen by Litkenya.com, the tuck is fully engulfed in flames, and a huge cloud of smoke is seen as the fire spread to around seven cars that were near the truck.

The cars and the truck have burnt beyond recognition, and the police are yet to issue a report of the incident that occurred in the afternoon hours on Sunday.

On the account of one eyewitness, the fire also unfurled to the nearby bush and homes that were by the side of the road.

“We are pleading with the county government and other agencies to come and help put out this fire. So many houses are burning, and there are some people and children trapped in the houses,” a witness claimed.

No firefighters had arrived at the scene at the time of publication.

Mai Mahiu road has been prone to many accidents in recent times. In November 2021, four people were pronounced dead after a trailer lost control and hit three other vehicles in a ghastly road accident that occurred at 7 pm.
