Deputy President William Ruto shocked Kenyans on Sunday after condemning nepotism in the government.

The DP decried that senior State officials and politicians were appointing their kin to serve in positions that other qualified Kenyans deserve.

Dr. Ruto appeared to hit out at ODM leader Raila Odinga after his elder brother, Oburu Oginga was picked to become a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

“You are already very prominent but when a job vacancy arises, you connect your brother. That culture must stop. We must have a country that shares opportunities evenly so that the minority can be part of the decision-making process in our country,” he said.

This was one of the most ironic remarks by the DP.

Last year, his daughter, June Ruto was selected for a prestigious job in Poland.

The then Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Monica Juma, who now heads the Energy docket, confirmed that June has been appointed as Chargee D’Affaires. In other words, she represents the ambassador in absentia and maintains diplomatic relations between Kenya and Poland.

Previously, she served in Kenya’s embassy in Rome, Italy as a second counsel.

So, when the second in command talked about nepotism in government, netizens were taken aback and called him out.

She has been trending since yesterday and here are some of the comments by social media users.

Ronoh Cornelius: “The man lecturing ODM for nominating Oburu to EALA also appointed his daughter to one of the most senior ranks in foreign service.”

Karen Wanjiku: “Is June Ruto representing UDA in Poland?”

@Cjamehk: “Speaking as if June Ruto is a small businesswoman in Turbo.”

Eric Ja’kanyipola: “June Ruto is Kenya’s deputy ambassador in Poland. God have mercy on us. Her father is a sisal worker.”

Anyamah Douglas: “June Ruto is a Mama Mboga and boda boda rider in Poland. The dad is right, we should stop this culture of appointments.”

Naye Biggie: “DP Ruto should be the last person to talk about tribalism and nepotism. He appointed his daughter June Ruto as ambassador at 21 years.”
