Ex-Lioness Captain Philadelphia Olando Appointed UAE Head Coach

Former Kenya Lioness player Philadelphia Olando has been appointed Head Coach of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Women’s Rugby Team.

The 31-year-old will oversee the entire on-field Women Rugby program and girls rugby development. She will also support the various coaching teams within the set-up.

Commenting on her appointment, Olando said it was an honor to be joining the Emirati.

“This is a new challenge for my personal development and an exciting opportunity that has been presented to me that I gladly accept with great honor,” she said.

“The Emirati is an unbelievable brand and I am looking forward to the challenge and how I can positively contribute to making Emirati successful. So this will be a collective effort by every person involved in the set-up and If I can contribute in any way to achieving their vision that would be great.”

For his part, the UAE Rugby Secretary-Common, Mohamed Al Zaabi said: “We are very pleased to welcome Philadelphia to the team, which comes in alignment with the UAE Rugby’s plan to invest in the regional and Arab competitions in the near future, surely expanding the pool of women players.”

Olando has been with the Lionesses for the last 15 years. She led Kenya to the Olympics in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 and enjoys a strong player profile in rugby.
