The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has warned of a scam conducted by an organisation purporting to enroll KCSE students in universities and colleges.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, February 22, KUCCPS flagged the Colleges and universities Placement Agency (CUPA)for undertaking roles that fall within its mandate.

The placement body noted that CUPA wrote to various schools and principals in order to invite them to various seminars and workshops.

“KUCCPS wishes to distance itself from the activities of CUPA. Students, principals, and the general public are hereby notified that KUCCPS shall not be held liable for any contracts, partnerships and any engagements entered between them and CUPA,” read part of the statement.

Further, KUCCPS affirmed that it is the only government institution mandated by the Universities Act, 2012 to conduct three key functions that include coordination of the placement of government-sponsored students to universities and colleges, development of career guidance programmes for the students’ benefits as well as undertaking other functions outlined in the Act.

“Therefore, any engagement with any organisation purporting to offer the aforesaid services on behalf of the government is unenforceable,” KUCCPS stated.

Recently, the placement body had announced a second chance to KCSE students who sat their exams between 2000 and 2021. The students would get the opportunity to undertake a TVET course in order to perfect their craft.

The placement service also urged those interested to pursue the course of their choice under government sponsorship.

“Did you sit the KCSE exam between 2000 and 2021 and haven’t been placed by KUCCPS to undertake a TVET course? Our portal is now open for applications. Apply for a chance to pursue your career of choice under government sponsorship,” read part of the statement.

“The ongoing TVET course application is open to anyone who sat KCSE last year (2021) up to 2000, provided one has never been selected to join a college by KUCCPS.”

The KCSE candidates were encouraged to apply through the KUCCPS portal.
