Russian troops are in northern districts of the capital Kyiv, Ukraine says, and armoured vehicles were advancing to the capital.

The Ukrainian government has called on its citizens to make Molotov cocktails (weapon) and defend the city.

Some 200 Russian helicopters were involved in the operation at the airfield, also known as Antonov Airport, the Russian Defence Ministry says.

The ministry claimed that 200 troops from Ukraine’s special units were killed, adding that there were no Russian losses, according to state news agency RIA Novosti.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky calls on European citizens to protest and ask their governments to intervene to stop Russia’s assault.

UK Armed Forces Minister James Heappey has told MPs in the House of Commons that 450 Russian soldiers and 194 Ukrainians, including 57 civilians, have been killed since Vladimir Putin’s invasion began yesterday.

In an earlier address, Ukraine’s President Zelensky said that he feared he’s the “number one target” for the Russian retaliation.

“They want to damage Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state,” he said.

Further, he has called on Russian President Putin for negotiations.

“I would like to address the president of the Russian Federation once again,” Zelensky says.

“Fighting is ongoing across all of Ukraine’s territory. Let’s sit down at the negotiating table to stop the killing of people.” He added.
