A friend of the late Kevin Omwenga has narrated to court his last moments with him before he was shot and killed during a party in his house in Kilimani, Nairobi.
John Mbugua Mungai gave his testimony before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.
The court heard that on 20th August 2020, Omwenga had hosted a party at his apartment and invited some of his friends.
According to Mungai, all was well as they ate and drank until at around 11 pm when the host died.
“At around 11 pm Omwenga’s bodyguard Robert Bodo wanted to leave for the day,” the witness testified.
The court heard that before Bodo left, he accompanied Omwenga to his bedroom.
Mungai said a while after the two left, he heard a loud bang which prompted his (Omwenga’s) brother to dash to the bedroom.
“The deceased’s brother Wycliffe Omwega dashed to the bedroom and found Bodo holding a gun and Kevin lying on the floor with blood oozing from his chest,” Mungai testified.
Bodo and businessman Chris Obure are facing charges of misuse of a firearm.
It is alleged that the gun used to commit the offence belonged to Obure.
Obure is also accused of failing to secure his gun which was accessed and used by Bodo.
