The country’s political arena has witnessed another huge milestone brought about by the union between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party and ODM of Raila Odinga held separate National Delegates Conventions (NDCs), but two leaders graced both functions.

First, Raila attended the Jubilee meeting at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) before they drove to ODM NDC at Kasarani Stadium.

In the Jubilee convention, delegates unanimously endorsed Raila to contest for the presidency.

The President said he decided to throw his weight behind the former Prime Minister because he has demonstrated that he is a great leader.

He vowed to hit the campaign trail and explain to Kenyans why they should consider the opposition to replace him.

“I have received that I am the first President in the world to close ranks with the opposition, but I don’t mind. I will rewrite history. My only desire is to see a united and prosperous nation,” the Head of State said.

Meanwhile, at the ODM convention, history repeated itself.
Just like it happened in 2012 when the President and his estranged deputy William Ruto exchanged caps to symbolise their union, scenes were no different in Karasani.

Raila called his ‘Handshake’ brother to the podium and they exchanged Azimio branded caps.

Delegates stood and cheered in pure elation.

Also, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who attended both meetings confirmed that the One Kenya Alliance will join forces with Azimio la Umoja.

The coalition between the two formations will be dubbed Azimio – One Kenya Alliance. The official agreement will be signed on Monday.
