The Kiambu gubernatorial race is gathering pace and five well-known politicians have shown expressed interest.
The incumbent, James Nyoro, will have a treadmill as he fights to retain the post.
Nyoro was elected on a joint ticket with Ferdinand Waititu in 2017 under Jubilee Party. Waititu was the boss but he was impeached in early 2020.

It means this is the first time Nyoro will be on his own and the task ahead of him is enormous.
The other five candidates are former area governor William Kabogo Waititu, Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Thika Town MP Patrick Wainana wa Jungle, and his Gatundu South counterpart Moses Kuria.

Kuria will be contesting using his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party while Waititu is eyeing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Jungle, who had initially expressed interest in UDA nominations, will go as an independent candidate. He is the only MP from Central Kenya who was elected without a party and is trying the same gamble on his governorship ambition.

Wamatangi, the current Senate Majority Whip, is yet to announce his party of choice, but credible sources close to him have told Litkenya.com that he will dump President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Party for UDA.

Kabogo, banking on his track record between 2013 and 2017, will contest on his Tujibebe Wakenya Party.

At the same time, Nyoro will be seeking a fresh term on Jubilee Party.
These frontrunners are backing Deputy President William Ruto for the presidency, save for Nyoro, who rooting for ODM leader Raila Odinga under Azimio la Umoja Movement.
The sitting county boss is hoping that votes for the DP will be split among the four contenders to hand him a lifeline.
At the end of the day, this will be an interesting race and it will be a laboured victory for whoever will carry the day.
