The Ksh 73.4 million graft case against Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his four children, Dan Okoth, Scarlet Okoth, Jerry Okoth, Evelyne Okoth, and 13 others has been adjourned to Tuesday 1st of March 2022.

This is after an application by one of Obado’s daughters Everlyne Okoth sort to have the case heard virtually.

In the application, Evelyne sort to have the case heard virtually because on the 25th of January 2022, she gave birth through caesarean section and she needed at least 3 months to recuperate.

Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi while granting the application noted that it was inconsistent with the pretrial directions of the hearing discouraging such applications on the hearing day.

The Chief Magistrate in addition said that the court needs to be prepared for a virtual hearing.

This is the second time the high profile case is being adjourned after a pregnancy-related issue.

Carolyne Anyango Ochola last year brought the court to a standstill after her lawyer George Kithi told the court to excuse his client who needed urgent hospital attention.

“My client has developed labour pains while in court and she needs urgent medical attention. I urge the court to indulge her to secure assistance otherwise this court may be turned into a maternity ward,” Kithi said.

The trial magistrate Mugambi while adjourning the case congratulated the suspect, Ochola, saying, “a child is a blessing and the mother should be indulged by the court to nature the newborn.”

Shortly thereafter the accused strolled out of court holding her back in pain. She was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.

At the same time, the magistrate was also informed that Obado’s two daughters, Scarlet Okoth and Everlyne Adhiambo Zachary, were also pregnant.
