Nominated senator Abshiro Halake has promised to prioritize education empowerment ,skills building and inclusivity if she is elected Isiolo North Member of Parliament during the forthcoming August polls.

Halake who is also the co-founder of the Northern Kenya Education Trust (NoKET) which provides scholarships to girl students in northern Kenya said she will invest heavily in the sector in a bid to revive the dwindling standards of academics in the constituency.

“As a reformer and democratic activist from Isiolo, focused on women’s and youth issues with a particular agenda on pastoralist needs I will keep advocating for education stability in the region besides working towards skills building , inclusivity, and peaceful coexistence for a secure and safe county for all different communities.” she said.

Halake is expected to use Kenya National African Union (KANU) as her political vehicle seeking to unseat the incumbent Hassan Oda Hulufo who was elected the area legislator in 2017 through Kenya Patriots Party.

Elected as Chairperson of the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) – Kenya, in July 2019, she has reiterated her commitment towards directing the drive for electoral reform ahead of the 2022 elections, to achieve free and fair elections for all.

“The Government should be seen as an enabler in creating the necessary environment, appropriate for the growth of multiparty democracy and free and fair elections and as CMD we’ll work with all stakeholders towards realisation of transparent exercise ” added Halake.

Reported as the most active nominated Senator in the Senate of Kenya during 2019, with 1168 speeches to Senate in the two years to end-2019,Halake is credited with having initiated reforms geared towards extensive experience in fund raising, organisational reform, capacity building, project management, and performance monitoring.
