ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula of Ford-Kenya have warned one party in the Kenya Kwanza alliance against making reckless remarks.
Mudavadi and Wetangula have been jolted by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) after Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the Deputy President William Ruto’s wheelbarrow party will produce both the presidential candidate and the running mate.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Gachagua said ANC and Ford-Kenya had agreed that Ruto will be the Kenya Kwanza flag bearer while the running mate would come from the Mt Kenya region.
“When we entered into talks with Mudavadi and Wetangula, we told them that the two positions belong to Ruto and Mt Kenya,” he said.
However, the duo has denied being party to such a partnership and accused Gachagua of spreading lies.
In their parallel statements, they told Gachagua to refrain from speaking on behalf of Kenya Kwanza.
ANC Secretary-General Samuel Gikuru described the Mathira lawmaker as a tribal politician.
“Rigathi Gachagua should transition from regional UDA mindset and embrace the broader picture of Kenya Kwanza philosophy.
“Kenya Kwanza has not decided on its own presidential and running mate candidates. This will happen and be unveiled at an appropriate time by our principals, Musalia Mudavadi, William Ruto, and Moses Wetangula,” Gikuru said.
Wetangula echoed ANC’s statement.
“Kenya Kwanza alliance is not about sharing positions but service to Kenyans inter alia, revival, and growth of the economy, reduction of debt nightmare, restoration of dignity to our farmers, creating of an equitable society and other pro-people programmes,” the senator said in a tweet.
