Machakos County Governor aspirant Nzioka Waita now says his remarks on ban of ‘muguka’ have been taken out of proportion.

According to Waita, his focus is not on banning the product but ensuring the youth have access to employment so that they do not use most of their time indulging in ‘muguka’.

“Muguka is not the main problem but joblessness is. We cannot have our educated young people idling around without jobs. I want to create a solution for the youth of Machakos,” he stated

Waita was speaking on Wednesday in Kathemboni, Machakos town where he was accompanied by local leaders who drummed up support for his bid.

The Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party leader said he is committed to ensuring efficient service delivery in the County if elected Governor in August polls.

“I will ensure all Machakos residents are able to access essential services such proper health care and adequate water,” he said

“I have worked for 47million Kenyans in the past seven years, I’m ready to serve my people of Machakos,” he added

Waita’s sentiments come few days after Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, who is also eyeing the Governor’s seat put him to task to demonstrate how he intended to ban ‘muguka’ yet most youth in the County are unemployed.

“Banning muguka and miraa is no solution,” Makau said while labeling Waita as a foreigner who lacks knowledge on issues affecting the County

However, in a response to Makau, Waita the youth of Machakos needed a leader who opens up employment opportunities in the County while offering hope for a better future.

“If Hon Patrick Makau thinks muguka is so great for the youth of Machakos. Let him start by feeding it to his own children,” he stated

“What the youth of Machakos need is jobs and hope for a better future, not a leader who will help them to die young. Our youth will be safer with me,” Waita affirmed
