A section of Madogo residents in Tana River County now wants the security agencies to urgently root out a local criminal gang popularly known as ‘kayole’ that has been causing havoc in the area.
These calls come in the wake of increased insecurity caused by the gang that has been operating ‘freely and causing mayhem’ with impunity.
Speaking during the inauguration of the newly created Bangale sub-county, area MP Ali Wario said that it is time for the community leaders to ‘sit together and agree on how to tackle the gang’ before it’s too late.
“We cannot have a gang stabbing people in broad daylight. We know all the children from each of the communities living here. We have to be sincere and name the suspects so that the law can take its course,” Wario said.
“If we do not decide now, this is going to be a cancer in this area. There are nyumba kumi elders and headsmen, why have we had kayole gang for this long?” he wondered.
Madogo MCA Abdi Argamso on his part asked the residents to stop defending the criminals and instead help the police to restore peace in the ward.
“Some of the members of this gang are small children whom we cannot say are beyond their parents reproach. You know them and their parents so let’s come together to agree on the way forward and end this group,” Argamisa said.
“Stop defending these criminals by saying that the government is targeting your children, we are all parents of these children and we will bear the responsibility of their actions,” he added.
Tana River county commissioner Thomas Sankei who led the installation of Deputy county commissioner, tasked the new team to work hard and restore peace in Madogo within the shortest time possible.
“Now you have a new sub county here, we have a DCC and sub county police commander who will work in collaboration with your elders to end this menace,” Sankei said.
“As a community, please do not allow this gang to grow further, give the information to us so that we can arrest and charge them,” he added.
