UMOJA Residency is a five-week art programme.

UMOJA is inviting Eastern African artists to apply for a residency programme that will take place later in the year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. UMOJA is one of the 11 pilot programmes being implemented by EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) as a test for innovative collaborations between Europe and the rest of the world. At the heart of the project lies a new spirit of dialogue, in which equality, mutual listening and learning represent the core values that help build trust and understanding between peoples.

The open call for applications by UMOJA is to a five-week long, gender-balanced and multidisciplinary artists’ residency that will take place from 26th September to 29th October 2022. The residency programme intends to open up cultural dialogue between East African and European artists, as well as to promote gender balance and social cohesion through the arts. The original works produced during the residency will be showcased in a repurposed open public space in Dar es Salaam, thus bringing together the artists and local communities. The programme will then include a final curated presentation.

The call is open to artists and cultural practitioners working in the fields of visual arts, music and dance. Nationals of Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo and the European Union Member States who are over 18 years old can apply. You only have two more days to submit so do so now.
