Jubilee Party leaders and aspirants in Embu County have dismissed allegations by critics that the ruling party had lost ground in Mt. Kenya Region which has been its main stronghold.
The leaders said the party was neither dead or on its death bed, noting that it was still the party to beat in the upcoming August elections.
Led by County Coordinator Emilio Kathuri, the leaders said JP still enjoyed numerous support and following in the region and was poised to sweep a majority of seats in the forthcoming polls.
They also called on elected leaders who jumped ship to other parties to stop disrespecting and degrading the President as he was still the region’s de facto leader, saying it was a shameful act especially coming from leaders in his own backyard.
“Lest those elected leaders insulting the President forget that the resources they are using to initiate projects in their areas have come from the same Jubilee Party administration they are now disparaging publicly,” said John Kathangu.
The leaders at the same time condemned what they termed as propaganda campaign being peddled by Devolution and Empowerment Party (DEP) popularly known as Bus that Embu Jubilee Gubernatorial candidate Emilio Kathuri had dropped his bid in favor of DEP’s candidate Lenny Kivuti.
“We want to affirm that our candidate is still in the race and has no intention of conceding in favor of anybody and those spreading the rumor have already sensed defeat,” said Joseph Mwaniki.
Kathuri said if Kivuti who is accused of being behind the propaganda had already sensed defeat, he was free to join Jubilee and deputize him.
“The post of Deputy Governor is still vacant,” Kathuri said as he exuded confidence of clinching the seat.
At the same time, a group of youths allied to JP who last week in a press briefing said that the party had resolved to back Kivuti for Governor apologized to Party Leader President Kenyatta claiming they had been bribed to do so.
“We want to apologize to our party leader over the slip-up, and say that we were misled by the Bus Party leader to run the propaganda campaign, “said youth leader Denis Kinyua.
They called on Kivuti to stop playing cheap politics and using youths to run smear campaigns and instead focus on building his party and selling his agenda to the electorate.
