Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi has said he is contemplating returning the multi-million car President Uhuru Kenyatta gifted him in 2017.

Mwirigi, then a university student, won the seat as an independent candidate and did not have a car. After trouncing wealthy candidate, who were shining on big parties like Jubilee, the President bought him the car to ease his movement now that he was a parliamentarian.

Almost five years later, a lot has changed and Mwirigi feels that the car is not giving him joy anymore.

This is because he supports Deputy President William Ruto, who has fallen out out with his boss.

On Saturday, the youthful lawmaker had a public confrontation with Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya during a meeting in Meru.

Munya described the MP as ungrateful, saying that if he was a good person he would be supporting the Head of State.

Mwirigi took the microphone and interrupted Munya’s speech.

He said a car cannot make him a slave of the President, adding that it is the DP who persuaded his boss to buy him the Prado.

It did not end there. Mwirigi has now taken to his social media platforms to criticise Munya for insulting him because of the gift.

Maintaining that he was grateful to the President, the legislator reiterated that he will not entertain bullying.

“First and foremost, let me thank HE the President for gifting me a car in 2017. I’m much humbled now as I was then. I want to appreciate him for gifting me wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return.

“Meanwhile, if at CS Munya is speaking for the President, I may, for the sake of my peace and independence consider returning the gift. I will not hear the blackmail by the CS anymore,” he wrote.
