Machakos Governor and Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua has expressed his bid to be Raila Odinga’s running mate in the Azimio La Umoja -One Kenya Alliance.

Speaking on Sunday, 8th April after meeting with Maendeleo Chap Chap Party Governing council, Dr Mutua said he has what it takes to deputise the ODM party leader, Raila Odinga on the 9th August General Election.

“With the urging of my party members, I present myself for consideration for the position of deputy president to Jakom Raila Odinga. I have what it takes to deputise him,” Mutua said.

“If I’m not offered the position of a deputy president, I will still work with Raila because I’m not here just for the positions, but we want to balance the past, the present, and the future,” said Mutua

Mutua stated that Raila deserved to be the president having worked for it for a long time.

“We have unanimously agreed to support the presidency of Raila Odinga and the Azimio Umbrella. Truth be told, it is his time. Just like it was Nelson Mandela’s time on May 10, 1994, this August 9, 2022 elections is Raila’s time, ” he said.

Mutua’s remarks come barely weeks after lamenting that his party and others were being sidelined in the alliance in favor of ODM, wiper and Jubilee.

Mutua claimed that there was lack of trust in the alliance and disrespect for small parties .
