Former Cabinet Minister and Funyula MP Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has been declared the winner of Busia Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Gubernatorial primaries held on Monday, 11th April.

Otuoma garnered 49,380 votes against his competitor Busia Woman Rep Florence Mutua who got 30,696 votes.

While celebrating his victory, Otuoma called for unity among ODM candidates saying they must work together to ensure they win all available seats in the 9th August General Election.

He has promised to work with Mutua for the good of the County and to ensure Raila Odinga is elected the fifth President of Kenya.

“Thank you my ODM members in Busia for speaking out loudly. On 9th August this year, the entire Busia will be much louder #Inawezekana,” tweeted Otuoma.

“I call upon my colleagues with whom I competed for the party gubernatorial ticket, to come on board; let us join hands and make Busia great. Our political ambitions should not be the cause for disunity among our people, but our unity should be the clarion call for our unity.”

Otuoma who lost to the current Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong in 2017 is likely to meet Sakwa Bunyasi of Kenya Kwanza, Meso of DAP-K and Mutua should she opt to vie for the seat as an independent candidate.

Catherine Omanyo was declared the winner of the Woman Representative seat with 29,273 votes against her competitor Beatrice Naburi Nakholi who was second with 17,641. Mrs Pamela Riziki Ojiambo came third with16, 219 votes.
